This German extravanganza pours a glassy, deep, dark amber color underneath a big and creamy off-white head. It has a remarkably potent aroma with equally strong notes of raw, husky maltiness, sourdough bread, and planty hoppiness. It's also quite big on the palate for a simple beer, with a straightforward graininess, malty sweetness, alcoholic twinge, and herbal, tea-like hop character. It's nicely full-bodied, a bit syrupy, but it ends clean while a tad alcoholic. The alcohol really mellowed out after a couple weeks in the fridge and this thing got more and more delicious the longer it conditioned, letting the strong malt flavor really shine through with nothing cloying whatsoever.
