Stir with lid open to bring down temp
Stirred Mash. Started a starter culture. 2 pints, 1/2 cup DME
Will add DME to bring gravity up to 1.81. 8.7oz in 2 pints of water, boil 10min. Chill and pitch with my yeast.
2 oz of oak cubes have been soaking in bourbon since Monday (1/5/2015). Changed the bourbon on thursday. Fermentation was vigorous and I lost 1 gallon to blowout.
It's been sitting on 2oz bourbon soaked cubes since end of January.
BLOW OUT! The beer blew out, popped the top and threw the hose. Big mess. Lost about 3/4 gallons some of which ended up on the floor.
Bottled today. Will condition until January 2016.
Rack to Secondary (5 gallon carboy). Add oak cubes and 2oz of the bourbon they were soaking in. Just over 5 gallons in the carboy. it tastes... GOOD
